KBC 4 prize money raised to Rs 5 crore

Mumbai, Sep 29 : Super star Amitabh Bachchan-hosted season four of 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' quiz show has raised its prize money from Rs one crore to Rs five crore.

The show, which will begin telecast on general entertainment channel (GEC), Sony, from Mr Bachchan's birthday on October 11, will also be christened 'Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) 2010'.

The latest avataar of KBC has also incorporated changes including new lifelines like ''Double Dip'' instead of ''50:50'' where contestants will have a chance to make two choices to answer a question. They, however, will be ineligible to quit the game at a later stage.

Another new lifeline will be the 'Ask the Expert' where contestant can seek the help of an expert. The number of rounds have been reduced from 15 rounds to 13 for the Rs five crore jackpot, with round 12 having a prize of Rs one crore. Round one will have a prize of Rs 5,000. Contestants will have 30 seconds to answer a question in round one and two, 45 seconds from round three to six, and no time limit from round seven.

Selected contestants for each series will also stay the week, while the episode is shot for a chance to sit in the ''Hot Seat''.

''The latest KBC is a terrific opportunity to renew the magic of the series with new features. It will be a faster, sharper and more dramatic show, with Bachchan hosting it with a new kind of empathy, informality and wit,'' show designer and producer, Siddharth Basu, BIG Synergy said here yesterday.

The series will also have two special weeks of ''Hot Seat'' version, where celebrities in teams of five will be quized by Bachchan. A member who passes a question, will be substituted by his/ her teammate.

''Returning to KBC is like homecoming with a familiar team and sets. I'm fortunate the show is being launched on my birthday and it promises to be more faster and spicier. Rs five crores is a life changing amount. I'll also be inviting inputs from the audience on subjects to be included during the prologue of the show. Audiences can expect to see the changes in the new series as the show proceeds,'' Bachchan said.

Sony has spent four months promoting the show through 20,000 television spots and 30,000 radio spots. 250 million people are estimated to have been exposed to the promos. A total of five million auditioned for the show and the show's phonelines received 5,00,000 registrations in five minutes and five million registration within a week, organisers said.

An official''KBC Quiz Book'' was also unvieled by Bachchan.
